Position Description
The Field Operations Technician’s primary responsibility is performing a safe and successful acquisition, as well as providing the processing department with organized and quality-checked data. He or she will have multiple roles as an FOT such as Pilot in Command, Sensor Operator, Mission Commander, Ground Surveyor, or a combination of the four. Repeatable and proven practices are key to maintaining productivity, which is critical when efficiency is being sold as part of the product.
To thrive as a FOT, he or she must be self-motivated, safety oriented, and a skilled remote pilot. The ideal FOT does not need to be told what to do because they are thinking ahead. Ensuring the safety of a flight is a team effort, but ultimately is up to the PIC to ensure that a mission is safe. Although many of the data acquisitions are automated flights, a FOT is able to steadily operate a remote aircraft in stressful and critical situations.
