Kraken is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Aberdeen, Scotland.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform engineering support tasks related to the mechanical and hydraulic systems of Subsea acoustic imaging equipment assets (Acoustic CorerTM and Sub-Bottom ImagerTM) which may include:
- Design tasks related to the mechanical/hydraulic interface with a specific vessel, ROV, or other deployment platform.
- Develop design improvement plans based on feedback from lessons learnt offshore, onshore workshop and client or industry requirements.
- Develop and maintain documentation to support offshore operation of Subsea equipment including part and assembly drawings, manuals, procedures, training material, deck plans, interface instructions, etc.
- Liaise with the electrical engineering, operations, geoscience, and business development internal departments as required.
- Occasionally perform physical work including assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and testing of components.
- Prepare engineering interface documents for client projects as requested from Project Managers
- In conjunction with workshop and technical support team develop a schedule for equipment maintenance, repair, and technology development.
- Provide appropriate recommendations to modify or repair equipment based on field or client requirements.
- Create and update SBI interface drawings for mobilisation requirements, ROV dock, plate location, pin heights, skid configuration.
- Assistance with Buoyancy calculations.
- Support Commercial/BD teams with tender/client specification reviews for client proposals
- Create engineering drawings for supplier enquiries/purchase orders, specific part fabrication for mobilisation issues as required – e.g. INS/DVL mount variation drawings for different vehicles•Assist workshop in sourcing mechanical, hydraulic parts and connectors and spares
- Liaise with HSEQ/Workshop on Lifting/Rigging certification requirements
- Provide support to projects with deck plan layouts
- Support workshop requests for current engineering drawings from the Engineering division database
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical
- Skills or experience in these areas considered an asset:
- Marine surveys and their associated equipment including ROVs, AUVs, and sonar systems.
- Underwater acoustic principles and design practices
- Subsea electronics packaging
- Fabrication and machining processes
- Hydraulics
- Motors
- Creating manufacturing documentation and procedures
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Proficient in SolidWorks for part/assembly modelling, drawings, and FEA (Simulation)
- Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Excellent design standards and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines under tight timelines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members.
- High degree of organization
