Job Description
xCraft is the fastest growing drone manufacturer in the Northwest. Our mission is to develop powerful flying machines that change the world. The UAV Engineer must be a rock star employee that is capable of taking a proven UAV airframe from inception to final product. The UAV Engineer works as part of a team to accomplish this goal. This position reports to the Director of Software and oversees design, development, and deployment of UAV Products.
Primary Tasks:
- Lead UAV software development from inception to final product
- Manage embedded systems and microcontroller programming
- Plan and conduct experimental tests on UAV prototypes, systems, and equipment
- Supports production
- Analyze project requests and develop design criteria including testing methods, production costs, quality standards, and completion dates
- Assemble drone prototypes including mechanical and electrical
- Capable of completely bringing an airframe up to flight, which includes but is not limited to; tuning, calibration, and test flying
- Assist and train UAV Technicians in building and testing UAVs
Must possess the following skills:
- Working knowledge of open sources tools: Pixhawk, PX4, Ardupilot
- Programming knowledge: MATLAB, C/C++, Python, LabVIEW
- Proficient in source code management; version control workflow across a team
- General understanding of Hybrid VTOL design
- General understanding of Fixed Wing flight
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Must be able and willing to work within a team environment
- Good personal time management skills and strong work ethic
- Capable of UAV assembly, including soldering, wiring, calibration of components such as ESCs and flight controllers
- Good understanding of autonomous missions and how to plan a mission
- Electrical lab experience- logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.
Must be competent using the following software:
- Microsoft Office Suite / Google Drive Suite
- Slack – For team communication/instant messaging
- Wunderlist – for task lists/sharing/tracking
- Asana – for setting and tracking schedules and remote team coordination
- Windows 10 and Linux desktop
- Mission Planner, AuduPilot, RFD 900 Tools
Common Tasks:
All xCrafters take part in common tasks. We are all expected to keep our work area and common areas clean and functional. If you notice something needs to be done, do it
- Office cleanup – sweeping, dusting, general organizing, taking out trash, vacuuming, etc.
- Kitchen patrol – washing dishes, making coffee, refrigerator cleaning, counter cleanup, etc.
- Answering phones
- Shipping/Receiving – packing, creating shipping labels, taking packages to post office, etc.
- General labor as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
Acceptable Experience and Training:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering or technical field such as (Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical, or Aerospace)
- Two (2) years’ experience in a related field is required; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
- Part 107 Pilot License a plus
