As an Electrical Engineer on the Spot electrical team, you will design, improve, and support the electronics for Boston Dynamics’ quadruped mobile robots. In addition to electrical design, you’ll leverage your Linux, networking, and embedded software knowledge to help troubleshoot and bring-up hardware. You’ll love working on a fun, collaborative, and talented team to support one of the world’s coolest robots.
Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics.
How you will make an impact:
- Support, debug, and improve fielded products (e.g. Spot platform, payloads, docks, and chargers)
- Author non-production test code and tweak production code to reproduce field failures and debug, bring-up, and test new hardware (C, C++, Python, Labview)
- Develop (document, design, test, support) digital, power, and/or mixed signal circuit boards
- Oversee and/or layout circuit boards in CAD
- Be the Electrical Teams go-to resource on configuring and troubleshooting computer networks in embedded systems operating on Linux
- Author technical documentation such as specifications, schematics, test plans, and reports
- Collaborate with all engineering disciplines, operations, manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and test teams
- Participate in design reviews
- Provide technical mentorship
- Develop and improve electrical development processes and best practices
We are looking for:
- BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, or closely related field
- 8+ years of directly related work experience
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
- Knowledge of computer networking configuration and debugging within Linux
- At least basic coding skills in C/C++, Python, and/or Labview and familiarity with Linux
- Demonstrated ability to debug to root cause complex electrical issues
- Strong embedded computing and robotics systems knowledge
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g. Altium)
Nice to have:
- Advanced software/firmware development skills
- Experience coding FPGAs in VHDL/Verilog
- Advanced Linux skills
- Familiarity with the concepts of functional safety
- Experience with Antenna design, testing, and debugging or a general interest in RF
- Experience with simulating high-speed interconnects (e.g. PCIe4, MIPI, USB 3.2)
- Knowledge of circuit board manufacturing DfX and best practices
