Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Flight Test and Operations Support Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in ensuring the highest standards of safety, performance, and reliability for our aircraft systems through comprehensive testing, validation, and continuous airworthiness support of the global fleet, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive flight test plans in collaboration with all teams, outlining test objectives, procedures, and success criteria.
- Conduct flight tests according to approved test plans, ensuring business, aircraft, and personnel safety.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret flight test data to evaluate aircraft performance, system functionality, and regulatory compliance to make recommendations for design improvements.
- Identify potential hazards and risks associated with flight testing, develop risk mitigation strategies, and ensure safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement in flight test processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness including hands-on training of internal staff.
- Review, analyse, and action flight logs and support tickets to resolve aircraft issues and provide technical assistance.
- Conduct root cause analysis to investigate errors and aircraft occurrences, providing reports to engineering and operations teams.
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and servicing of the aircraft fleet and supporting equipment.
Key Selection Criteria
- Strong understanding of aircraft systems, flight mechanics, and aerodynamics
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in an agile environment
- Experience with flight test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and analysis tools
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Willingness to travel and work irregular hours as needed to support business activities
- This involves weekly overnight deployments to SwoopAero’s regional Victorian flight test range in Murchison
- A full Australian driver’s licence is mandatory with ability to tow a trailer
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant engineering and/or aviation operational experience
- Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) with Powered Lift <25kg endorsement
- Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC)
