Syos is a pioneering aerospace and technology company at the forefront of utilitarian autonomous vehicles, across air, land and sea. We specialise in the development of cutting-edge unmanned vehicles and are expanding our product range across UK and Europe. We are looking for an experienced, highly skilled and passionate Avionics Design Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team. We have facilities in Fareham, UK, and our HQ is based in Mount Maunganui New Zealand.
As this role will be based in New Zealand, relocation support will be offered.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design and develop avionics systems for fixed-wing and rotary-wing UAVs, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Design and develop avionics systems for fixed-wing and rotary-wing UAVs, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Design redundant system architectures for fail-safe operation.
- Select and integrate high-performance avionics components, considering weight, power consumption, and environmental factors.
- Define software requirements to ensure alignment with overall vehicle functionality.
- Design and implement robust electrical systems and power distribution networks for reliable UAV operation.
- Design and operate Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) environments for flight control systems and ground control stations.
- Analyze flight logs using tools like MATLAB.
- Participate in field testing activities to validate avionics system performance.
- (Desired) Design Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) for the air vehicle.
- (Desired) Develop electrical harness designs to optimize system integration.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Avionics Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a relevant field.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in avionics system design and development for UAVs or similar applications.
- Strong understanding of unmanned system architecture design principles.
- Ability to design and implement redundant avionics systems.
- Understanding of flight modes and control logic for autonomous flight.
- Strong familiarity with communication protocols (CAN BUS, RS485, RS422, RS232, Ethernet).
- Understanding of the working principle of GNSS, INS, air data computers, magnetometers, and altimeter technologies.
- Understanding of DGPS, RTK, and SBAS for precise navigation.
- Familiarity with RPM, temperature, current, pressure, fuel level, and load sensors.
- Knowledge of C++, Python, and MATLAB for embedded systems development, testing and simulation.
- Knowledge of STM32 and Atmel microcontrollers (a plus).
- Knowledge of harness design tools (a plus).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude.
- Passion for aviation and a strong desire to contribute to the future of UAV technology.

Pay: £45,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
