Why manned helicopters are still being used to acquire aerial data instead of drones?
Conventional drones are legally limited to fly on the Visual Line Of Sight of the pilot (VLOS) with a maximum range of 500 m. from the pilot. Consequently, manned helicopters continue to be used when long ranges are required: linear infrastructure inspection and digitization and emergency support.
In FuVeX we are implementing long–range industrial drones with more than 80 times more range than conventional drones.
Lots of drones in the marketplace but only a few can fly long–range legally complying with the EU drone framework*.
