XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed a marine robotic system known as an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV).

Overview

Seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join the Mechanical Design and R&D Team and support the team with engineering studies, 3D & 2D designs & documentation to enhance our current fleet of USVs & design new USVs with increased capabilities.

Main Duties & ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include:

Creation of 3D parts/assemblies and 2D drawings using Autodesk Fusion 360
Design of USV components & assemblies, integration with 3rd party systems, design of future vessels, capability and performance improvements.
Develop mechanical design documentation: e.g. calculations, schematics, DFMEAs, work instructions & Standard Operating Procedures to support USV production and maintenance activities.
Creation of Bills of Materials, entering into inventory management systems, stock checks & kit building.
Presentation & communication of analysis and designs to team.
Management of external suppliers and manufacturers.
Support internal Engineering Change Management processes
Support effective document control for all engineering documentation
Liaise with teams from Design, Production, Maintenance & Technical Support.

Requirements: Essential Skills / Attributes and ExperienceBEng in Mechanical Engineering or Similar.
1 years mechanical design experience using (Fusion 360, Solidworks or similar).
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
Ability to work on-site in Rathcor 5 days per week.
Ability to seek innovative solutions.
Practical approach to work with an emphasis on simplicity of design and operation.
Excellent organisational skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Enthusiastic, positive and proactive nature with a keen attention to detail.

Desirable ExperienceHands-on mechanical experience.
Experience using Netsuite/ similar inventory management system.
Marine experience (e.g. sailing) advantageous.
