About The Role
As Head of Engineering you will play a crucial role at a pivotal point for Treeswift. Your work will drive our evolution from an early stage software product with incredible customer demand (built on a robust robotics backbone) to becoming the de-factor software platform that powers field work in utilities and beyond. In this role you will –
- Lead and grow an outstanding team of mission-driven engineers. At the heart of this role is supporting and building a team of rock-star, mission-driven engineers. You will enable them to do the best work of their life Treeswift. On the hiring front, you will take the lead on hiring and growing this team in partnership with company leadership.
Scale our platform from early usage at <10 utilities to supporting operational roll-out across 30+ utilities and other customers over the next few years. You will bring your experience to enable us to mature our platform to meet the unique needs of increasing scale, while retaining velocity and creativity needed for greenfield work.

- Collaborate closely with hardware, product, customer and sales teams. Our product spans hardware deployed outdoors, to a user on their cellphone, to a manager in the office. Execution on that vision requires almost every conversation to be interdisciplinary and product-oriented. Today all of engineering and product plans and executes sprints together and the entire company reviews the sales pipeline on a weekly basis. As we scale some of this may no longer work, but the spirit of avoiding functional siloes will remain.
The 60-day objectives for this role are
- You deeply understand our tech stack from data upload to customer web application.
- You have formed opinions on major technical risks/opportunities and you have a game plan to tackle the most important ones.
- Your are deeply plugged into sprint planning and supporting engineering execution as needed.
- You have formed an opinion on priority hiring needs and launched those searches.
Experience / Skills
- 8+ years software engineering experience, with at least 4 of those in a leadership position. You’ve built teams from scratch, led small teams and led larger engineering organizations (>20 people).
- Experience delivering production software to large enterprise customers at mature scale (20+ customers, 1000s of users, real operational usage). Ideal if you’ve worked with customers who have a physical footprint – energy, manufacturing, shipping, supply chain, etc.
- You have worked at both early stage and growth stage companies and are interested in going on that journey with Treeswift.
- Experience with a machine learning/AI heavy technical stack is a big plus.
- Experience leading software engineering in a business with a hardware stack is a big plus.
- Nice-to-haves include experience with sensor data, robotics, edge computing, mobile applications, and geospatial data.

Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $230,000 - $280,000. Total compensation for this position is determined by skills, qualifications, relevant work experience, location, and other factors. This salary estimate excludes the value of any potential bonuses; the value of any benefits offered; and the potential future value of any long-term incentives. This information is provided per the New York City Human Rights Law. Please note that the range provided is applicable only to New York City-based applicants. Base compensation may vary if the work location is outside of New York City.
