Description: Northwest UAV builds small, specialized engines for specific unmanned systems applications. The role of the Mechanical Engineer (ME) is to lead in the development from concept to engineering release of new products as requested. The ME will perform engineering analysis on designs, produce detailed engineering and assembly drawings for manufacturing as well as oversee field testing of new products. The ME will act as the liaison between the Project leader and the corresponding company to maintain excellent customer relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce engineering documents to include full technical design packages, component and assembly drawings, installation drawings, service bulletins or letters and engineering test specifications and reports.
- Perform classical engineering analysis and simulations on component and product designs.
- Prepare and maintain complex product definition documentation – drawings and bills of materials.
- Accurately complete tolerance and geometric studies of parts and assemblies.
- Coordinate with the engineering and other company groups to ensure and improve product quality.
- Have knowledge of all resource materials, including build manuals, parts books and drawings, and use these resources effectively to address all technical issues.
- Perform all tasks in accordance with the printed procedures.
- To work safely at all times, adhering to applicable safety policies with the company.
- Regular and clear communication with manager and internal and external team members on status of assigned project(s).
- Adhere to AS9100 standards and regulations as administered by Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
- Investigate new technologies or existing technologies that can be effectively applied to products in development.
- Problem definition, research, data collection, analysis to determine the best methods for problem-solving.
- Manage and interact with customers, suppliers and vendors regarding on-going projects and future business opportunities.
- Analyze field failures and resolve technical related issues.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager or owner of NWUAV.
Skills, Experience, and Aptitude:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, and a minimum of 4 years of practical job experience is required.
- Experience working with drawing packages, work instructions, and vital mechanical skills.
- Working knowledge of Solidworks (preferred)
- A strong mechanical aptitude, exceptional time management, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in the ability to understand and utilize all written materials available about the project at hand.
- Basic computer skills, knowledge, and practical job experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft applications are required.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively via verbal, written and interpersonally with people at all levels of the company including vendors and customers.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Safely lift and carry heavy objects with the help of another person if necessary.
- Ability to work well independently and following strict adherence to deadlines.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout the day alternating sitting and standing as necessary.
- Perform repetitive movement such as pushing, pulling, bending, some twisting and stooping.
- Perform fine hand manipulation including handling small and large objects.
- Ability to communicate clearly and be positive, polite, and cooperative with co-workers, managers, customers and vendors.
